B Sc Nursing

Today, Nursing offers one of the most lucrative and fail-safe careers for Girl Students who opt for Science in 10+2. If any of the students having Biology, Physics and Chemistry in their core subject combinations, she may choose Nursing as career. There are three types of Nursing Courses out of which two are Diploma and one is Degree in nature. The first two i.e. Diploma Courses on Nursing are ANM (Auxiliary Nursing & Midwifery) and GNM (General Nursing & Midwifery). Admission to these courses are generally made through marks obtained in 10+2 Board Exams in PCBE (Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English). Institutions running ANM & GNM courses are called School of Nursing. Though some Nursing Schools prefer to organize admission tests on their own, generally admission based on numbers obtained in 10+2 Board Exams is practiced all over India. Though, this practice may change in the coming years as GNM and B Sc Nursing are considered 'At Par' to many recruiters (Govt. & Pvt. undertakings). So, a common Entrance Test for admission to GNM and B Sc Nursing cannot be ruled out.

The third one, i.e. B.Sc. in Nursing is the highest in order among the three. As per Supreme Court of India's order, like other Professional Courses, admission to this one has to be made strictly on the basis of performance in Entrance Examinations. To appear in the Entrances, one has to secure a minimum of 45% (in some cases 50%) marks in PCBE in 10+2. For SC, ST, OBC & PHs, the minimum number required is 40%. On the contrary to ANM & GNM, Institutions conducting courses on B.Sc. Nursing are termed as College of Nursing.

Today, in India, there are several B Sc Nursing Entrance Examinations, some of which are conducted Pan-India Basis and some are restricted for State Domiciled candidates. Here are excerpts of some Nursing Entrances in which candidates from West Bengal can appear.
